WolvHaven Metro to be radically refurbished to accomodate vanilla minecart-based metro system
Dear all,
As many of you are aware, the server has been experiencing low TPS (ticks per second) — even during quieter periods with few players online. After thorough investigation, our staff have traced the root cause to the TrainCarts plugin. We’ve tried a number of fixes, including reducing the frequency of the monorail and metro lines, but unfortunately none of these have resolved the underlying issue. The problem is further compounded when players are spread across different worlds.
After careful consideration, we’ve concluded that the only sustainable path forward is to remove the TrainCarts plugin and transition to a vanilla minecart-based system. To mark this fresh start, we’re also rebranding the network — introducing the Minecart Transit Railway (MTR)!
Freeing up server resources also enables us to limit server costs in this AI-powered world. As the cost of hard drives and other storage devices skyrockets more sharply than the price of a barrel of petroleum, we need to make conscious choices to remain viable in the current complex geopolitical and technological environment. We’ll also be making some AI-related investments of our own as part of plans to build resilience for an uncertain future. We are notably looking to build and create new plugins for use on the server for all to build at a much faster and rapid pace than before.
Here’s what’s changing:
- 5H Metro — The metro will be rebuilt using vanilla minecarts under the MTR branding.
- Gardellia Mainlines — These will be replaced by warp trains, given the long distances involved and the speed limitations of vanilla minecarts. This follows the successful rollout of warp buses in 5H.
- 4H Metro — The network will not be replaced, in line with the upcoming closure of the world.
On the topic of Gardellia — we know its future has been a point of discussion. While removal was seriously considered due to low activity and a high AFK rate of those who do still play on that world, we’re committed to keeping the world for as long as remains possible.
What’s happening and when
TrainCarts will be removed on Sunday, 12th April — just over a week away. If you’d like to take one last ride on the current metro, now’s your chance!
And what better way to celebrate the old and welcome the new than at our 15th Anniversary Celebrations this Saturday? We’ll be running a special metro retrospective tour alongside all the other planned festivities — we’d love to see you there.
We’re sorry for the suddenness of this announcement, and we appreciate your patience and understanding. This network has been a beloved part of our server for ~15 years, and we’re excited to carry that spirit forward into this next chapter.
Hope to see you Saturday! 🚃🚃🚃
